Sweltzer creek Swílhcha Stótelô
Swílhcha Stótelô is important rearing habitat for overwintering coho but faced many impacts from nearby development. Ts'elxwéyeqw Tribe is leading this restoration project in collaboration with LFFA and Fraser Valley Watersheds Coalition.
Funded by the Aquatic Habitat Restoration Fund, work has focused on restoration of aquatic and terrestrial area, characterization of habitat, water quality testing and aquatic species use surveys.
To improve the habitat within the creek, LFFA has organized the addition of substrate and large woody debris, invasive species removal, bank stabilization using bio-engineering techniques, and native species planting. After completion, an aquatic and amphibian species monitoring program was initiated.
